Georgeanne Smisko Zvodar
I love to take close-up photos of flowers and foliage. I am drawn to the intricacies of the designs, the blends and transitions of colors, the textures. This pleasure in the details is what inspires me in my mixed media and acrylic work.
When starting a new piece, I always being with mark-making using many different tools and objects, sometimes with my eyes closed. This practice excites and frees me to explore my next steps. Following my instinct in applying my first layers of color, molding paste, or other materials is accompanied by music and movement and joy. I work in many layers to give each piece depth and space for me to carve back, revealing areas previously covered up. These close-up details are what I am drawn to in paintings and in people.
When someone shares a part of themselves that they usually keep covered up, I feel honored and trusted. This is the greatest space-being present with the vulnerability of another. It is delicate, and raw, and truthful.
I experience this same authenticity when my paintings reveal to me who they are and what they have been hiding.
My hope is that you will let your eyes wander, exploring the lines, and movement, and underlayers. Find what you are drawn to - spend some time there. I hope you feel more authentically yourself after spending some time with my work. And I hope you know you are loved.
